It is with profound sadness that Roots of Reform Judaism informs you of the death of our
Founding Executive Director, Rabbi Howard Berman. He was also a congregational Rabbi
serving Chicago Sinai Congregation from 1982 until 2002. He later founded Central Reform
Temple of Boston, serving there until 2020. He was the editor of several scholarly and liturgical
books. In May of 2024, Rabbi Berman celebrated 50 years in the rabbinate.
